A Tropical Wedding in Burnham

LornaĀ &Ā Fraser

Lorna is my oldest friend, and when she asked me to design herĀ wedding flowers, it was a no brainer. I knew Lorna would want something out of the ordinary, and so I wasn’t surprised when she told me her ideas of a tropical wedding set within a very old English church and barn.

To be honest, I wasn’t initially sold on the idea. As a designer, it comes naturally to come up with a scheme that compliments and enhances the surroundings of which the wedding or event is set. However, once the flowers arrived from the market, I was smitten!

As a huge lover of colour, I was in my element designing and setting up this wedding.

Lorna’s bouquet was a large and loose style hand-tied bouquet (not easy to make when the stems of tropical flowers are 1 inch thick!), finished off with long trails or cerise ribbon. It suited her perfectly and she looked absolutely stunning.

The Church

TheĀ church ceremonyĀ was atĀ St Anne’sĀ on the edge of Burnham Beeches in Dropmore, a very quaint building, obviously very old.

The entrance was adorned with a mega cool broken arch, consisting of tropical leaves and flashes of bright tropical flowers. Certainly not what the wedding guests might have expected on arrival! This piece made a fabulous backdrop for the entrance and exit photographs, as well as for the confetti shot.

Inside, we kept it simple with Protea and Anthurium pew end bunches, and again with lots of big glossy leaves.

A sentimental buttonhole and corsage were left on the pews of Lorna’s late mum and dad, as well as Fraser’s late grandmother, which was such a special touch. All the displays included Iris, which was Lorna’s mum’s name.

In true Fraser fashion, he pulled up to the church in a fully fitted ghost buster’s car, (complete with two actual ghost busters). You have to admire a couple who put two fingers up to tradition!

The Reception

Hickenham Farm hosted Lorna & Fraser’sĀ wedding reception, I couldn’t recommend this venue highly enough. Entirely family run, it made the wedding feel so personal and special.

The barn had such beautiful views across rolling hills and a huge duck pond. I decorated the tables with tall gold pedestal stands topped with large, loose floral displays. On the top table sat a long floral garland from end to end, with a fairy lit backdrop to add some sparkle.

All in all, it was one of my favourite weddings of the year. Congratulations Lorna & Fraser!
